Houseplants 101

Saturday, July 22 at 10 am

Do you think you have a “Black Thumb” when it comes to houseplants? Fortunately, learning how to do houseplants comes down to a simple formula. Light, water and humidity are all proportional to one another and all you really need to know about houseplants. Katie will go over the basics, help you identify what may have gone wrong in the past, and help you figure out what plants will be most suited to your home.

Resurrection Plants

These plants have the remarkable ability to survive in a curled up, dormant, brown, dessicated state for years, and then open up and turn green with a bit of water. After returning to a lovely green, they go dormant again when their water source is removed, and can be revived again after dormancy. This cycle can be repeated for years.

Plant of the Week: Vitex

Profuse spikes of lavender flowers, blooming heavily in the early summer, and then sporadically throughout the summer and fall. Vitex is heat, drought and pest tolerant. ‘Texas Lilac’ is a group designation for several recommended cultivars which are considered Texas Superstars®.
